Strength From Within

                                                        Sifu Harry Parkes

Whitelight Kung Fu is based on Phor Kune Kung Fu which was developed by Grandmaster Jeremy Chin. This system combines the Northern Chinese kicking techniques with the Southern Chinese hand techniques to bring about an effective and balanced style of self defence and all round fitness. The classes are structured, friendly, traditional and holistic. Every session begins with a short meditation. Respect, courtesy and patience are of the utmost importance. After a student has grasped the basics they will find the techniques economical and graceful yet effective. All students are required to work to a syllabus and are graded periodically on aspects such as technical ability, fitness, attitude, focus and attendance. Drills, techniques and instruction are mostly in Chinese. With regards to self defence, a student must master their basic techniques, improve their skills so that they become natural and,  strengthen their spirit. Developing  martial skills enables you to quickly devise strategies to meet the oncoming force of your opponent thus minimising the risk of serious or unnecessary injury both to yourself or to your opponent/attacker. Spirit is a combination of focus, determination, emotional balance and confidence. When you lack spirit a person with more spirit and less skill than you can defeat or harm you.

Trainer’s philosophy

“If you take up a martial art, it should become part of your life without being a fashion, chore or addiction. The level of participation is up to you. Training should have an element of discipline, variety, consistency, progression and sometimes… fun………enjoy.”
